It began in 1955 when a Scottish golf enthusiast named Wilson dug a hole in what was just a field. A few years after, another enthusiast known as Colonel Kamili continued Wilson’s work. He designed the nine holes, their triangular setting, and the border of geraniums.
The Agadir Royal Golf Club is a par 36 course that is 3,600 meters long. It has fairways perfumed with fragrances that blend with the zest of the ocean nearby. While it may be a brilliant course, you need to be careful of the trees and the very thick undergrowth. The greens are wide and well-defended by deep bunkers and palm trees that close of the angles. The third hole is especially challenging, with its amazing 469 meters and par 5 needing particular skill on the second shot to conquer the imposing water hazard.
After the game, players can discuss how their round went in the scenic clubhouse that is virtually buried in a cascade of Bougainville area.
Combine a talented and inspired designer, a disciple of Robert Trent Jones, and a remarkable stretch of gently rolling land with ample growths of eucalyptus punctuated by expanses of water, and you get the spectacular Club Mediterranean Dunes Golf Course.
Cabell B. Robinson has integrated a number of wonderful surprises into these three nine holes par 36 courses. The blue course, Eucalyptus, is recommended for getting your hand in, but be cautious! Hole number 8 is quite the treasure. Its green swiftly comes into view on the top of the hill enclosed by bunkers. Then, after the effort has been made, comes the reward—an awe-inspiring, undisturbed view of Inezgane.
The Dunes Golf Club, Agadir
The yellow course, Wadi, requires much more skill. Hole number 3, par 5, incites fear and admiration. Its narrow green is secured by an embankment, a lake, and a deep depression. Best wishes! For the Tamarisk, the red course, you will need all your clubs and all your best strokes. The last hole is formidable—a narrow 5 par course that goes uphill through the trees before delicately sloping down to the green and the club.
Golf in Morocco
Golf is very popular in Morocco, slightly because of the late King Hassan II, who was an internationally ranked practitioner of the game. Some of the most well-known of the country’s 16 golf courses are located at the Royal Dar Es Salam Golf Club in Rabat, which has three courses and hosts the renowned Hassan II Trophy every year. Agadir has three courses, namely the Agadir Royal Golf Club, the Dunes Golf Club, and the 5-star Golf du Soleil. The Marrakech Royal Golf Club is an 18-hole par 72 course located at the foot of the Atlas mountains. Marrakech has two other 18-hole courses — the Palameraie Golf Club and the Amelkis Golf Club.
